Advice and fast quotations for all your projects
The lighting of the 80s had a more discreet, elegant and sober appeal. The designers were still under the influence of the 60s and 70s – disobedient, bright colors, anti-conformist objects. However, the styles of the 80s were distinctly more discreet than the previous decades. Shapes were more refined, more sober and straight. The light fixtures of the 80s were often in shades of black, offering a more elegant and pared down style for interiors. A predominant number of lights made in the 80s were made of metal, notably steel and iron.
Many emblematic designs produced in the 80s are well-known all over the world. In 1983, the Italian firm Lumen Center Italia produced the famous Washington lamp designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte. This simple table lamp was originally made for the French ambassador in Washington.
Italian designers Gae Aulenti and Piero Castiglioni put out the iconic collection Parola, composed of table and wall lamps, pendants and floor lamps. This collection so beautifully combined the technical elements of craftsmanship and industrial production that was so typical of the 80s.
