Advice and fast quotations for all your projects
In the 50s, designer lighting took a change of course. Just after WWII, the world economies and mentalities were under reconstruction, which led to a rise in consumer consumption as well as an improved feeling of comfort at home. Home decoration was not to be left behind; lights of the 50s adopted a modern design look: contoured and tapered lines, tangy colors, floor lamps with refined, simple, compass-shaped stands, while new industrial technical ability was transferred to the world of lamps as seen in the use of industrial style materials such as steel and aluminum.
50s designer lights and all their original aspects did not overlook the all import functionality and practicality qualities.
A number of Scandinavian lighting firms have drawn inspiration from this period. Nordic brands such as the Danish firm Gubi or the Norwegian brand Northern Lighting offer lighting emblematic of the 50s.
Such reproductions now seem timeless and iconic; among those on offer, the Cobra lamp by Greta Grossman is the incarnation of a pioneer light design of the 50s, with a touch of European modernism and practical aspects such as the 360° rotation.
