Advice and fast quotations for all your projects
Lightings are classified according to the NF C71-000 standard, by order of electrical insulation. This standard defines the level of protection required to avoid electrocution risks depending on the environment in which your lighting is set-up.
Indeed, there are dangers and risks that can be incurred if you choose a fixture that is not suitable for our environment. The main risks are then: fire, electrification or electrocution. The protection index is an international standard, established by the International Electrotechnical Commission, relating to waterproofing. This IP rating is intended to classify electrical equipment according to the level of protection it offers against the intrusion of foreign bodies, whether solid or liquid.
The first digit "2" corresponds to a protection against the intrusion of solid bodies greater than 12 mm. The second digit "0" means there is no protection against splashing water. This is the minimum protection allowed by the standard. Lightings that have an IP20 are luminaires exclusively dedicated to the interior. They should not be installed in bathrooms or outdoors, where splashing water can occur, except under special and assumed conditions. For these spaces, you have to choose lightings with IP 44, or IP 65. For an optimal rendering, opt for LED bulbs and if possible dimmables, to vary the light according to your desires!
