Structure—the simplest and most straightforward word there is to describe how the components of a system are organized in relation to one another. A structure is an assembly of components that allows the various forces applied to a system to be transferred so that the system remains in equilibrium.

Nicolas Pichelin, one of the co-founders of Structures, is none other than a world champion sailor! That is where his passion for technological challenges comes from. He must ensure that the rigging—on which dynamic forces of several dozen metric tons are applied—holds firm, with absolutely no margin for error, as the crew’s lives depend on it. It is a constant search for new solutions and new materials to test and implement.

It was in 2004 that Nicolas was first approached by contemporary artists to develop innovative technical solutions. Based in Nantes, the two founders of Structures, Jean-François Michon and Nicolas Pichelin, continue to work in collaboration with artists, major French luxury brands, and set designers to bring their projects to life by offering unique and original technical solutions.

Since 2012, in addition to this exciting work, Structures has been manufacturing and marketing innovative design concepts—this time available to the general public—through a wide network of concept stores in France and internationally under the Structures brand.
