Hulger

Nationality
British
Occupation
Designer, entrepreneur

This very innovative design studio was founded in 2005 by Michael -George Hemus and Nicolas Roope.
The name Hulger is inspired by Nicolas Roope's grandfather. He was of a generation and culture that had resisted the waste of integrated obsolescence. He bought durable products that improved with age. He has invested in beautiful technologies that have not generated a fear of forgetting at each subsequent release.

Inspired by the desire to make new technologies accessible, and in particular low-energy light sources, Hulger imagines lighting fixtures that, like boxes, highlight and reveal the bulb with the idea that a lamp only takes on its full dimension and delivers its visual impact with the light beam on stage.
Thus the Plumen bulb, the first designer low-energy bulb, is beautifully celebrated in an opaque and reflective suspension that is switched off and becomes transparent when switched on.

Hulger is also at the origin of the design of the Pharaoh suspension, a sublime luminaire from Light Years.

Hulger is based in London but has a truly global perspective. "We create our own brands and products and partner with brands and companies to co-create new things that reflect our values." Hulger.
