Our lighting, from Karakter

Karakter is a Danish design brand founded by Christian Elving in 2014 that specializes in the production of furniture, gallery pieces, and lighting fixtures. The essence of Karakter lies in designs characterized by simple forms, modernity, and elegance. Karakter has chosen to collaborate with designers who share the same philosophy—design giants such as Achille Castiglioni, Joe Colombo, Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, and many other brilliant figures. All designers featured by the brand are handpicked for their ideas and creativity.

At the heart of Karakter’s philosophy lies a desire to create something new: “The idea itself must be uncompromising. The design must stem from a genuine desire to create or solve a problem, not from a desire to sell”—Christian Elving, CEO and partner. The Awkward Light fixture and the Aida table lamp, for example, stand out for their minimalist and essential design.

Karakter is a brand conceived as “an international design house focused on nature and functionality, respectful of the legacy of Nordic design without merely replicating it.” The Danish design house is renowned for its reissues of works by design giants such as Joe Colombo and Achille Castiglioni. Founder Christian Elving worked closely with the Achille Castiglioni family and foundation in Milan to create reproductions faithful to the original designs.
