Our lighting, from Stilnovo

1946 - On June 1st, Bruno Gatta founds Stilnovo in the heart of Milan.

1947 - Stilnovo takes part in the 8th Milan Triennale and immediately launches a communications campaign, focusing on the most important trade magazines in the sector.

1949 - Bruno Gattta joins forces with his brother Paolo, a recent university graduate. In September, they open "Stilnovo Srl", with a share capital of 400,000 Italian lire. It was the start of a managerial journey that, in just a few years, made the company a benchmark in modern lighting.

1951 - Stilnovo takes part in the 9th Milan Triennale and the Oslo Fair, presenting various collections.

1954 - Opening of the new Milan site in Via Durini 26. Stilnovo wins the silver medal at the 10th Triennale di Milano.

1955 - The 2061 is the first Stilnovo lamp selected for the Compasso d'Oro.

1956 - Stilnovo reaches a share capital of 4,000,000 Italian lire, a tenfold increase in just seven years.

1957 - Achille and Piergiacomo Castiglioni design two Saliscendi luminaires for the new Milan Chamber of Commerce.

1959 - Stilnovo becomes a limited company, developing numerous contract projects, including the Galfa Tower in Milan, designed by architect Melchiorre Bega.

1965 - Opening of the new production plant in Lainate. Giovanni Luigi Gorgoni designs the Buonanotte.

1968 - BBPR, Joe Colombo, Angelo Mangiarotti, Ettore Sottsass, Marcello Pietrantoni, Roberto Lucci, Danilo and Corrado Aroldi design for Stilnovo. Giancarlo Iliprandi creates the new brand image.

1969 - Joe Colombo's Bazooka collection is nominated for the Compasso d'Oro. Antonio Macchi designs the Gràvita lamp for Stilnovo.

1970 - Joe Colombo designs the Topo, Minitopo and Triedro.

1971 - De Pas, D'Urbino and Lomazzi design Lampiatta, adjustable without the use of joints or mechanisms.

1972 - Stilnovo takes part in the exhibition "Italy, the New Domestic Landscape" at MoMA in New York, where the Periscopio and Nuvola lamps are part of the permanent collection. Gae Aulenti and Livio Castiglioni design the Trepiù system.

1977 - Ettore Sottsass designs Don and Valigia, characterized by the radical design that, in the 1980s, gives rise to the Memphis group.

1978 - De Pas, D'Urbino and Lomazzi design the Fante lamp, easily adjustable thanks to the hat-like reflector on the lamp head.

1981 - Gae Aulenti and Piero Castiglioni design the Minibox, a fun, portable lamp.

1985 - Shigeaki Asahara designs the Luna lamp.

1988 - After decades of success, confirmed by the numerous lamps exhibited in the world's most important design museums, Stilnovo comes to a screeching halt, in the middle of a path begun in the 1940s.

Stilnovo, today.

In 2019, the Linea Light Group - a global leader in LED lighting - acquires Stilnovo, with the aim of relaunching the brand in the modern world and continuing a story that began over 70 years ago.

With the pragmatic, innovative approach that characterizes both Stilnovo and Linea Light Group, the project involves re-editing the superb icons of the past and involving new designers to develop future luminaires.
