AVEYRON - LATELIERDARCHI

Interior architecture: latelierdarchi

Lighting design: Nedgis

Location: Aveyron

In the heart of a village in the Aveyron region, this former stable/barn has been a playground for village children for generations. The barn was converted into a farm shed in the 1950s.

We're demolishing the shed and renovating the barn. We demolish the shed, renovate the barn and build an extension off-set from the barn to create a rift offering targeted views over a marked relief of the region.

Original materials, preserved and enhanced, rub shoulders with rough-cast concrete, glass and steel.

By insulating the roof from the outside, we were able to keep the historic framework and its cachet visible, while emphasizing and leaving it unfinished and painting the trusses black.

The house was designed to be bioclimatic. It recovers heat from the sun in winter but is protected from it in summer.

Thanks to its orientation and openings, the house recovers heat from the sun in winter through the large glass roof in the double height, but is protected from it by the foliage of a deciduous tree that provides shade in summer.

The high-performance insulation is aided by the use of a solar panel. High-performance insulation is aided by an automatic opening and closing system (depending on heat, humidity, CO2, rain and wind) for the roof windows, which are capable of releasing trapped heat in summer or capturing heat from outside on sunny winter days.
