LOFT SESQUEZ - HEJU STUDIO
On the first floor, we eliminated all partitions to create a large, uncluttered loft-like space bathed in light. Opening up the front façade and creating a skylight at the rear was an obvious way to connect the interior to the exterior and bring natural light into the heart of the apartment.
To dress up the space and give it personality, much of the furniture was sculpted directly into the architecture, like organic reliefs, like the bold bench in the living room or the terracotta-covered sideboard in the dining room. The loft is thus embodied by an interplay of volumes, shapes and colors that highlight the normally invisible void.
The entrance is subtly delineated by a central core of two arches containing storage. The living area is divided into three sections: kitchen, dining room and lounge. A mezzanine, housing an office, dominates the living area. The hand-carved spiral staircase lends a poetic, instinctive dimension to the space.
A textured wall accompanies the staircase to the bedrooms below. In the same spirit, the headboard of the master suite blends rough and smooth in an orthogonal composition. To provide a link with nature, an interior patio has been created in the master suite. Light enters indirectly, creating a soothing retreat. The marble opus-incertum floor in the bathroom extends into the patio, giving the illusion of an outdoor water feature.
