Axel Wedel Madsen

Axel Wedel Madsen initially trained as a technical modeler and craftsman, developing a deep understanding of materials and manual work. In 1951, seeking to replace the rigid and bulky lighting in his own workshop, he designed a lightweight, sturdy, and efficiency-focused aluminum pendant lamp. This model, named the Workshop Lamp (Værkstedslampe), was an immediate hit in Danish workshops and factories thanks to its lighting quality and durability. Produced in the mid-20th century by manufacturers such as Louis Poulsen, this light fixture has become an icon of Scandinavian industrial design and is now being reissued by the Danish company Made by Hand.
