Bernard-Albin Gras (1886-1943) is a French designer who also had a career as an engineer. Gras was one of the first great names in modern European design, and his most famous work was undoubtedly the collection of Lampe Gras lamps, which had a major influence on functional design in the 20th century.
The GRAS lamp is amazing for its ergonomics and the simplicity of its mechanics - no screws or soldering - which makes it extremely robust. But Bernard-Albin Gras is also one of the first designers of the 20th century: not content to innovate, he adds to his creations an original functional aesthetic, especially in the design of bases and rods.
