Ernesto Gismondi is a designer and the founder of Artemide group. He was born in Sanremo in 1931.

Before starting its designer carreer, Ernesto Gismondi has an aeronautic diploma in the Polytechnic School in Milan in 1957 and a missile engineering degree at the Engineering School of Engineering in Rome in 1959.

In 1960, in he creates the Studio Artemide SAS, with the Italian Sergio Mazza. It Artemide group grows and becomes now recognized around the world.

Ernesto Gismondi wins many prizes whose Compasso del Oro in 1994, Design European prize in 1997 and the Ernst & Young "Entrepreneur of the Year" award for the Innovation and Communications category in 2008 and 2009.

Ernesto Gismondi was vice-president for ADI (Industrial Design Association). He taught for Polytehcnic School in Milan. He has worked in the Industrial Association of Lombardy (Assolombarda), Federmeccanica, Confindustria, the Autonomous Agency of the Milan Fair and in the Ministry of Universities and Research.
