The interior and product designer Francesco Rota was born in 1966 in Milan where he lives and works. He graduated in Product Design from the Art Center College of Design in 1994. He opened his own studio in 1998 and has worked in different fields of design: product, furniture, lighting, showrooms, offices, residential interiors and events. Since 2004, he has taught in the Masters Research Study Program in Industrial Design at the Istituto Europeo di Design, in collaboration with Magis. He has been awarded with two honorable mentions from the Compasso d’Oro for the furniture collections Linea and Island, which are today in the Historical Collection of the ADI. Other prizes include the Compasso d’Oro award, a Special Mention at the German Design Awards in 2014 (by the German Design Council) for the product Daydream, the MIAW and the Muuuz International Design award. In 2013, he received nods for his product Frame On and, in 2014, for Smile as well as the Interior Design Best of the Year award for Cloud. In 2013, he was a finalist at the Wallpaper Judges’ Awards in the section Designer of the Year. He collaborates with international names such as Alchemy, Arketipo, Bals Tokyo, Barilla, Driade, Fiat, Frag, John Richmond, Knoll International, KME Italy, Lapalma, Lema, Living Divani, L’Oreal Paris, Malo, Martini & Rossi, Mercedes Benz, Moroso, Paola Lenti, Oluce, Takano Co.Ltd and Versus. He has taken part in several exhibitions : St. Etienne Biennale du Design, Hannover Messe, Triennale di Milano, Reggia di Venaria Reale in Torino, Material Connection in New York, Biennale di Architettura in Venice, Royal Academy of Arts in London, the Merchandise Mart in Chicago, Miami Design District, Biltmore Fashion Park in Phoenix, Bellerive Museum in Zurich. Since 2013, he has been the art director of Lapalma. He created two lamps for the Italian brand Oluce: the pendant light Kin and the wall light Lens, available in our e-shop.
