Both graduates from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, Ralph Nauta and Lonneke Gordijn founded Studio Drift in 2006 with a shared vision of design creation that answers questions about human behaviour. Studio Drift explores the relationship between nature, technology and mankind. Their working process involves continuing collaborations with scientists, university departments, research facilities, programmers and engineers. The results are truly innovative and ground-breaking projects – a testament to the cross-pollination between the technically advanced, the aesthetically beautiful and awareness of future potential. Their oeuvre includes dazzling site-specific installations that react directly to human behaviour, questioning it at the same time. While the visual language of Studio Drift is characterized by dreamy and poetic aesthetics, the concept behind their works is often based on an unexpectedly critical engagement. Their work has been shown in important museums and fairs all over the world, including the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the International Furniture Fair in Milan, the Expo in Shanghai, Design/Miami, the Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum, Tokyo Design Week, Design Act Moscow, the Museum of Arts & Design in New York, The Israel Museum and the Biennale in Venice. Studio Drift has received many awards for its projects including the Light of the Future from the German Design Council in 2008 for “Fragile Future”. More recently, FF3 was nominated as Finest Light Sculpture of the Kortrijk Fair. “People find the time to look at art within a gallery setting, but the world is one big exhibition if you only care to look.” Lonneke Gordijn“We want to encourage people to see things that they no longer notice; to reach a kind of unconscious recognition that everyone instinctively feels and understands, yet have lost the time for.''
