APPARTEMENT SAINT ANTOINE

Architect: Heju Studio

Lighting: Nedgis

Location: 75011 Paris

The Saint Antoine apartment is a duplex created from the renovation of a former carpentry workshop and storage attic. Extensive structural work was required to create a hopper connecting the two levels.

On the lower level, the totally open-plan living space is sequenced by singular architectural gestures. A colored core initially defines a discreet yet functional entrance. The sculptural metal staircase is suspended above the kitchen to optimize and free up the length of the top. The worktop extends into the living area and becomes, in an ingenious and daring way, a resting landing.

To give it great lightness, the shape of the staircase has been decanted to the essentials, highlighting the void like a simple sheet of cut paper. Its rigor and straight lines give it an expressive simplicity and an aesthetic with a strong personality. In contrast, the living room's curvaceous, hand-crafted bookcase emphasizes our customers' love of craftsmanship. Reinforcing the poetic atmosphere of the space, it forms the backdrop to the living room.

Upstairs, bleached Douglas fir parquet flooring transforms the bedrooms into landmarks imbued with a soothing sensibility. The monumental light-wood closet in the master bedroom emphasizes the particular geometry of the volume, while at the same time receding into the background to the master beams, remnants of the original space. The bathroom, meanwhile, has been entirely finished in beige waxed concrete, giving it a timeless softness. The ensemble is enhanced by a suspended washbasin unit, punctuated by walnut slats and echoing the headboard of the master bedroom. The guest bedroom, meanwhile, is wrapped in a sheet of wood that unfolds all around the room, highlighting the desk, becoming a headboard and even acting as a screen to place the immaculate white en-suite bathroom in the background.
