BASTIAT - HEJU STUDIO

Architect: Heju Studio

Lighting: Nedgis

Location: 75008 Paris

The aim of this renovation was to redefine the spaces of this Haussmannian apartment more clearly and gain in clarity. We wanted to return to the essence of the space and design elements with pure lines and Japanese inspiration. The architectural heritage is thus combined with a new, more minimal visual sense.

The long entrance hallway has been reduced in favor of the singular dining kitchen, now at the center of this family retreat. The floor is defined by two-tone concrete with organic lines, while the ceiling is lined with thin light-wood strips to create a warm atmosphere. The kitchen is organized around a large free-standing island combining light wood and white lacquered metal. In the majestic living room, the old chimney flue and the sloping wall have been erased by the addition of a large bookcase featuring noble materials and muted hues.

A little further away, the master suite was created from scratch. It blends waxed concrete on the floor, sage green and woven raffia on the headboard. Access to the shower room and dressing room is via raised wooden passageways, echoing the moving screens of traditional Japanese architecture. The shower room has regained its orthogonal geometry thanks to a shower that closes in on itself. Beige stone tiles mingle with light-colored wood and are illuminated by hand-crafted pink earthenware.
