HAUTERIVE - HEJU STUDIO

Architect: Heju Studio

Lighting: Nedgis

Location: 75019 Paris

This project was an opportunity to express oneself on a new typology, a 1930s house in the heart of the Mouzaïa district. Comprising three floors of 50 m2 each, the house was a series of small rooms with dark, dated tapestries. The major challenge of the renovation was to restore fluidity between the spaces and let the light back in, all in a bold, colorful atmosphere.

On the first floor, the space was completely opened up to create a single volume where the living room, dining room and kitchen interact. The kitchen is accented by strong material choices such as Verde Alpi marble and deeply grained American walnut. Rounded details soften the whole and create a link with the rest of the composition. The brass skylight not only distances the staircase, but also extends its design onto the wall, which becomes a painting. On the dining room side, a bi-material bench combines natural leather and electric blue velvet. Its rigorous design is in duality with the irregular brickwork, both structure and soul of the building.

Located in the attic, the master suite is immaculate in white and bathed in light. A large glass roof cleverly conceals the shower room and stairwell, while accommodating a large study. In the center of the room, the bed is set against an atypical island. Covered entirely in green waxed concrete, it gives the room sequence and a touch of color. Behind the fluted glass, with its subtle reflections, lies a very sober bathroom. The mirrored wall lends depth to this small room, but also lightness to the pink marble washbasin top.

In the basement, the secondary living room is as if out of time. Adorned in light beige from floor to ceiling, the space is an enveloping cocoon. The wide, bespoke bench in rosy hues invites you to relax.
