It's not that often that we're given a carte blanche project. For this project, the request was unique: for our client to see life in pink, she wanted a blue bedroom.
We had to make a clean sweep of an existing room, and create a blank page. By wiping the slate clean, we created a blank page. To create a total surprise effect, we were given only a few indications of what was not allowed, and then nothing. Not a single site visit. And finally, after many long months of patience, our customer discovered her world. It's a bit like ours too: getting rid of a "style" for the simple purpose of personalizing a living space.
The major piece of this rehabilitation is the suite. For health reasons, our client spends most of her time in this space. It's not just a bedroom; we've thought it through and organized it with some of the principles of an apartment-hotel. It's when you open certain doors that the layout reveals itself.
Our customer is an avid traveler, and she knows that as the years go by, she'll be able to travel less and less. So we opted for this theme, not as a melancholy mausoleum, but as a gentle evocation of travel, both from a touristic and temporal point of view.
From the headboard to the hanging lamps, numerous objects awaken our memories or awaken our imaginations with accents of elsewhere. The bathroom, more sober, is an invitation to relax and forget the passage of time. The hallway is treated as a room in its own right. Arriving from the ground floor, it's the first room to offer a sensory experience, like a small museum piece, sober and warm. An illustration is the only ornament, like an iconic work of art. The effect is enhanced by the natural zenithal light positioned just above the painting. The room's wooden cladding conceals the doors, whose handles are the only intriguing clues as to what they reveal when pushed. The rooms are designed as a whole: a common theme with a panoramic paper that stretches across the width of the floor and links the two rooms. With their plain tones, the rooms are slightly negative in hue, but have a unique signature in the furniture.
