Bent Karlby was a Danish designer born in 1912 in Århus. He graduated from the technical school in his home town in the 1930s. During the Second World War he joined the Danish resistance movement and contributed to the illegal newspaper Danish Journal. He fled to Sweden in 1943 and opened a design studio in 1944. He travelled extensively around the world before returning to Denmark in the 1950s.

In 1940 he started working with Lyfa and his lighting designs have stood the test of time!

These include China Pendant, Omega Pendant, Pan-Opticon Wall Light, Påfugl/Peacock Wall Light, and Wonderlamp Pendant. With their "Space Age" aesthetics expressed in metal, acrylic or glass these lights are unique!

Karlby died in 1998.
