George Sowden is a designer and product developer born in Leeds, UK.

He studied architecture at Gloucestershire College of Art in England in the 1960s.
George Sowden moved to Milan in the 1970s where he began working with major companies including Ettore Sottsass and Olivetti and opened his own design and product development studio.
He cultivated an interest in the practice of design and decoration.

Ten years later, he became one of the co-founders of the Memphis Group through his involvement in experimental design projects.

In 1991, he received one of the most influential and long-standing product design awards, the Compasso d'Oro award for design excellence.

He founded Sowden in 2010 specializing in kitchen objects and subsequently SowdenLigth which is his latest extension.
