Italian designer Giancarlo Mattioli was born in 1933.

In the 60s, he founded the "Gruppo Architetti Urbanisti Città Nuova" group with Italians Pierluigi Cervellati, Umberto Maccaferri, Franco Morelli, Gianpaolo Mazzucato and Mario.

They created the Nesso and Nessino table lamps for the Italian company Artemide. They are well-known design icons. The Nesso lamp is part of the MoMA museum in New York. It also won first prize in the Studio Artemide Domus competition in Milan.
