Johan Van Hengel is a German designer now based in Rotterdam.

He studied at The Hague University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands where he learned to combine the technical aspect and industrial design. In 2013, he opened his own design studio and offers furniture and lighting as well as everyday objects.

Johan seeks to integrate a useful character into his creations to provide a solution through his achievements. He pays particular attention to the function of the product, which he places at the heart of the design. His products, which he wants simple, always hide a surprising element. It draws part of its inspiration from Scandinavian design, which perfectly incorporates these codes. He wants to create aesthetic and useful everyday objects
The technicality and usefulness of its products earned it distinctions at the Elle Decoration Talent Award in 2010 and the IF design Award in 2016.

Today Johan Van Hengel works with many brands, including the lighting house HAY.
