Mika Tolvanen

Mika Tolvanen is a Finnish designer who designs furniture, lighting, and home decor products.

Mika explains that his design focuses on function:

"My products are meant to be used, but that doesn't mean they can't be beautiful. I don't have a dogma, but I believe that good design comes from understanding materials and wanting to improve their function. An object can have a complex range of functions but it shouldn't be complicated."

So, these creations address two primary things in design: aesthetics and function. A balance that reveals a rigorous work and know-how, an assiduous mastery of materials and a sensitive look at Nordic aesthetics.
