The designer Ray Power was born in 1975 in Ireland. He graduated from the Dublin Institute of Technology in 1997 and then moved to Spain.
He has collaborated with LZF Lamps since 1998. His more recent designs - Air (2008) and Link (2007) - have been awarded the Red Dot and the Chicago Good Design awards respectively.
His work has been exhibited in Milan, Valencia, Dublin, Madrid and Tokyo and he continues to work on lighting design projects for LZF Lamps.
His trademark style relies heavily on geometry and an innate ability to produce exciting three dimensional forms from flat materials like wood.
Ray explains where the idea for his Escape pendant lamp came from, “It’s a composition of cubes tilted onto their diagonal axis and arranged in such a way that M.C. Escher, the Dutch graphic designer, would be proud. I first composed the idea and knocked it out as a virtual 3D computer drawing but couldn’t fully appreciate it on the monitor. I went on to making a real wood model and now I find that the road ahead is a lot clearer”.
