Cara/Davide is a design studio founded by designers Cara Judd, originally from South Africa, and Davide Gramatica, from Italy. Based in Milan, this multidisciplinary duo is distinguished by an approach centered on materials research and collaboration with local artisans in their home countries. Their creations explore notions of territory, perception and production techniques, with an emphasis on simplicity and natural palettes. The studio, founded in 2016, strives to strike a balance between functionality and aesthetics, while valuing imperfection in the creative process.
Cara/Davide's work is characterized by sculptural objects and pieces with a minimalist imprint, yet strongly influenced by the founders' cultural diversity. Collaborating with many renowned brands and galleries such as Tooy, they have developed a range of objects that combine industrial design and craftsmanship. With the Italian lighting brand Tooy, the duo have created collections such as Tratti, where geometric and angular shapes integrate perfectly with architectural spaces to form unique lighting compositions.
Cara/Davide prefer to work with raw materials, giving them an almost sculptural appearance. In addition to furniture, their expertise extends to exhibition scenography and space planning, with an approach that is both conceptual and pragmatic. Their collaboration with Tooy reflects their search for a subtle balance between light, material and structure, where each piece becomes both a lighting object and a work of art.
