Roderick Vos is a designer born in 1965 in Groningen, the Netherlands. He began his studies in industrial design at the Design Academy Eindhoven in 1984. In 1987, during an internship, he spent six months in Japan with GK Industrial Associates Tokyo. This stay, together with his connection to Asian culture - he is partly of Asian descent - had a strong influence on his approach to design. After graduating in 1990, he moved to Surabaya, Indonesia, with his partner Claire Vos, who would also become his collaborator, to deepen their knowledge of rattan furniture and textile production.

In 1999, the couple officially founded their design studio, Studio Roderick Vos, based in Nijmegen, the Netherlands. The studio specializes in designing furniture, accessories, textiles and lighting for international brands such as Alessi, Moooi, Driade and Fatboy. Roderick Vos describes his style as "playful and ergonomic". He believes that good design should be self-explanatory: the product should be easy to appreciate, use and understand without a lot of abstract explanation. His creative process is not limited to drawing behind a desk; he likes to go into factories, touch materials, observe techniques and craftsmen. For example, the "San" table he designed for Linteloo was born from observing a CNC milling machine in a factory.

Some of the highlights of his career include the inclusion of several of his pieces in prestigious museum collections, such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam or the Museum of Arts and Design in New York. The studio celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2024, marking a quarter-century in business. One of their collaborations for the HC28 Cosmo label, the "Twisty" armchair, won the EDIDA China 2023/24 prize in the best furniture category.

Roderick Vos' work lies at the crossroads of tradition and innovation. He blends Asian influences with a European background in industrial design. He favors long-lasting forms, well-considered materials and understated elegance, what we might call "decorated simplicity" without ostentation. He strives to make design accessible, usable and emotionally engaging for the user.

Roderick Vos is a contemporary Dutch designer who has combined an international, experimental practice with production rigor and a marked aesthetic sensibility. His work is in the field of furniture and object design, with a strong industrial base but always attentive to emotion and use.
