Our lighting, from LZF

The story of LZF is the result of a chance encounter. In fact, in 1995 in Valencia, Spain, one day when its two founders, Marivi Calvo (Valencia, 1960) and Sandro Tothill (Brisbane, 1966), were working with scraps of wood on a lighted table to create collages for their own home, they discovered an incredible lighting effect. Shining light on the wood grain allowed them to create unique objects with distinctive shapes and lighting effects. That’s when the idea for the company took root, initially under the name Luzifer.

Today, LZF operates a factory with just over 20 employees, and the brand is present in countries around the world. Since 2001, it has been using Polywood, a new wood-based material for which it has filed a patent. Polywood allows wood to be used as a light diffuser.

LZF collaborates with numerous designers, including: Miguel Herranz (1997), who created the iconic Hola, Margarita, Mikado, and Anfora models; Ray Power (1998), who worked on the Alhambra, Link, and Air lamps; Burkhard Damner, Oscar Cerezo, Bang Design, and Luis Eslava.

LZF’s raison d’être is truly the product itself—the material. Its hallmark is not only creating lamps—beautiful lighting objects with curved, soft forms—but also crafting an incredible atmosphere through the texture, quality, and color of Polywood.
