The LZF story was built by chance…. In 1995, in Valencia, Spain, the two founders, Marivi Calvo (born in Valencia in 1960) and Sandro Tothill (born in Brisbane in 1966), were manipulating wood scraps on a light table to make collages for their own house. The use of light on wood grains resulted in unique objects with unique forms and lighting effects. The incredible lighting atmosphere and experience behind this collaboration was named 'Luzifer'.
Today LZF runs a factory with a team of 20, and the brand is available nearly everywhere in the world. Since 2001, they have been using Polywood, a new material made of wood, which they created and patented. Polywood transforms wood into a light diffuser.
LZF works with many designers, for example: Miguel Herranz (1997) who created the emblematic models of Hola, Margarita, Mikado or Anfora; Ray Power (1998) who designed the Alhambra lamp, Link lamp or Air light; Burkhard Damner; Oscar Cerezo; Bang Design or Luis Eslava.
The essence of their brand is not only to create lamps that are beautiful objects with curved smooth shapes, but also to create an incredible atmosphere through the very specific texture, quality and colour of the Polywood.
