Mr Maria

Creation date
2006
Country
Netherlands

The Mr Maria story began in 2006, when two Dutch designers, Jannes Hak and Lennart Bosker, decided to imagine lamps that would "change the world". As they themselves put it, "we don't make products, we light up stars." Indeed, their aim is to imagine creations that provoke wonder and questioning in children and make adults smile.

They have thus imagined lamps formed from translucent plastic. With their childlike souls, and a great deal of humor and poetry, they give life to reassuring, benevolent creatures of modern design. The Miffy lamp (a famous character created by Dick Bruna) is the children's bedroom fixture that put them on the map in 2010.

Mr Maria is constantly developing new products in the field of nursery decoration. The latest addition, the Little Prince, will bring warm, comforting light to children, and will also become a real decorative object.

Note: But what's the story behind Miffy? It begins on June 21, 1955. It's raining in Utrecht, the Dutch city where young designer Dick Bruna lives with his son. Staying at home because of the bad weather and feeling a little bored, Bruna decides to tell his son a story about a little rabbit (inspired by his stuffed toy) he met on vacation in the dunes of Egmond aan Zee.
The beautiful story of Miffy was born that day... The little rabbit became the heroine of numerous books and cartoons.
