Axelle Vertommen

Birthdate
1992
Nationality
Belgian
Occupation
Interior designer and architect

From an early age, Axelle Vertommen nurtured a burning passion for furniture design. The first sparks of this vocation were lit during regular visits with her parents to design stores, where she was captivated by the creations of famous designers. These experiences shaped her conviction that she should follow this path, and she persevered in this direction by studying both interior architecture and furniture design.

Axelle Vertommen's creative world is characterized by striking contrasts of color, form and material. Her artistic language undeniably draws its inspiration from modernist architecture, while also being influenced by the Memphis movement. But functionality is always at the heart of his thinking. Her projects are born of necessity, which she joyfully strives to sublimate. She describes her work thus: "Furniture and interiors that make you smile!"

Among her remarkable creations, Axelle Vertommen created the luminaire christened "Brion" for Matière Grise. This was inspired by the funeral complex designed by brutalist architect Carlo Scarpa in memory of Giuseppe Brion, an Italian industrialist, at the request of his wife. Axelle Vertommen has captured some of the architectural lines of this building, and Brion's geometric folds reveal a warm, indirect light. This creation testifies to her talent for fusing architecture, design and emotion to create unique pieces that evoke smiles and contemplation.

Axelle Vertommen continues to inspire the design world with her exceptional creativity and commitment to functionality and aesthetics.
