Dirk Winkel is a Berlin-based German industrial designer specializing in furniture and lighting. Trained at Berlin's University of the Arts (UdK) and London's Royal College of Art, he has developed a refined, thoughtful style rooted in the tradition of German design. In 2011, he founded his own studio in Berlin, where he designs objects that are functional, aesthetically pleasing and sustainable, with a particular focus on innovative materials and reduced environmental impact.

His collaboration with Swedish brand Wästberg has brought him international recognition, notably with the "w127 Winkel" desk lamp, a pioneering use of high-performance bioplastics. Dirk Winkel adopts a design philosophy inspired by Dieter Rams, championing the idea of design that is "as minimal as possible": timeless, rigorous and useful.

In parallel with his design practice, he is involved in teaching industrial design, first at the UdK Berlin and then as a visiting professor at the HBKsaar. Through his work, he questions contemporary industrial standards, exploring new ways of producing and consuming, far from the effects of fashion, to propose objects that last.

"It's only by freeing ourselves from fads and ephemeral trends that a design can acquire lasting validity."
