The French designer François Azambourg was born in Angoulême in 1963. He first attended an electrical training program before pursuing his studies at Les Beaux-Arts in Caen (France). It was only when he applied to the Arts School of Paris (ENSAAMA), from which he graduated, did he find his passion to design. Azambourg is known as an inventor. He has several patents for furniture (furniture fabric softener that softens the fabric sustaining the weight of a body), inflatable lighting, and self-construction items... The designer became known to the general public through his active participation in specialized exhibitions and fairs: Paris, Monaco, Milan, New York, Beijing and Tokyo. During this period, many lighting and furniture projects were developed with Ghaade, Domeau Perez and the gallery Kreo. François Azambourg has won numerous awards such as the Villa Médicis in 2003, Grand Prix du Design in Paris in 2004, etc. In 1993, he began teaching his unique approach to design in various schools: ESDI, Créapole, ISCOM, Boulle, Camondo and is currently at ENSCI Les Ateliers. The work of François Azambourg is interesting for his approach to production and the new utilization of rational and expressive materials. In tribute to Serge Mouille, the emblematic professor of the metal department at ENSAAMA, Azambourg imagined the Chapelière lamp made of hammered aluminum in 2012. Today it is available in three versions: hammered, black or white as well as in small or large sizes on offer by the French brand Ligne de démarcation.
