Born in San Diego in 1969, Johanna Grawunder is an American designer and architect who shares her life between San Francisco and Milan. Graduated from the University of Polytechnic in California, she then spends a year studying design in Florence. Light is her specialty, it is present in all her work and even integrated in her furniture designs. She thinks that light has a sculptural role, she uses it to give structure to the space and better the architectural environment.

Sharing her life between Milan and San Francisco, she is inspired by the two cities in different ways, enriching her work on many scales. The designer is part of a very large range of projects, from industrial objects to architectural projects and artisanal creation. She thinks that the transposition between different scales is very important, making her work truer and more relevant.

Creator of many lighting objects, which were for a lot made in collaboration with Flos, she has a very special relationship with light. For her « Light is also a material, an almost magic material. » She created many design lightings for the Italian house, such as the « Wan » collection.
