Design duo Marie Cornil and Alexandre Willaume, formed in 2018 after meeting at the Design Parade at Villa Noailles in Hyères, take a cross-disciplinary approach to design, blending functional objects, plastic installations and formal research. Their collaboration with French publishing house Petite Friture gave rise to the PYL collection, a series of sculptural luminaires inspired by the visual cues of beacons, oscillating between industrial language and graphic poetry.
Comprising pendant, wall, ceiling and floor lamps, the PYL collection plays on the confrontation of materials - steel, pressed glass, textile - and primary color compositions. Designed to be modular, it explores different qualities of light, from direct beams to diffused halos. The series pays homage to the simplicity of geometric forms and reflects the designers' interest in signage, light and movement.
Beyond PYL, Marie & Alexandre's work is characterized by a radical yet accessible aesthetic that questions function, perception and use. Somewhere between craft and industry, their creations engage with spaces and the senses. The duo strives to create objects with a strong identity, capable of arousing emotion as much as reflection, always with precision and formal clarity. A promising approach, open to new collaborations and experimentation.
