Designer

Mathieu Matégot is undoubtedly the precursor of contemporary design. He was born in Hungary in 1910 and studied at the School of Fine Arts in Budapest. From the beginning of his career, he became involved in the research and realization of unique pieces thanks to innovative techniques and original forms for his time. He is definitely one of the first designers of his generation to truly seek aestheticism in the creation of objects for everyday use, using materials such as rattan and metal. His singular style will give his creations a remarkable character, identifiable among all the already existing pieces. In 1945, he invented the use of perforated sheet, innovation that will lead him gradually to the creation of successful collections: Java, Soumba, Badgad, Satellite etc.
You can find his works exhibited on the occasion of large events (Salon des Arts Ménagers, Salon des Artistes Décorateurs, Tableware) and some objects sold exclusively in decoration shops.
