Born in 1931 in Milan, designer Seergio Mazza studied architecture in Lausanne. He opened his own studio in 1964 after graduation. In 1960, he founded Artemide with engineer and designer Ernesto Gismondi.

Artemide's first success is the Alfa table lamp made of natural and synthetic elements in glass, marble and metal.
Sergio Mazza continued to contribute to Artemide's collections with the Delta lamp, the Mida armchair,...

In 1961, he separated from Gismondi and created the Studio Smc brand with the architect Giuliana Gramigna. Together, they have designed furniture for Arflex, Artemide, Cinova, Formica, Krupp, Quattrifolio, Valenti and other brands.

Sergio Mazza is a real reference in the world of Italian design. During his career, Sergio Mazza has received many awards including a silver medal for his Appartamento Italiano at the 10th Milan Triennial in 1954, and a Compasso d'Oro for the Delta lamp in 1960. A model of his Toga chair is kept at the V&A Museum in London.
