The designer David Trubridge was born in 1951 in Oxford, UK. He studied at the University of New Castle and received a diploma in Boat Design in 1972. He also worked part-time as a woodsman and learned to produce furniture, gaining reputation in the UK. In 1981, with his wife and children, David Trubridge began a world tour by boat in his yacht Hornpipe. In 1985, they lived in New Zealand and then traveled around the Pacific Ocean. David draws much of his inspiration from the sea to create products. The David Trubridge brand was founded in 1995 in New Zealand at a time when his creations began to be known. Most of his creations are composed of wood from New Zealand and the United States, using only natural non-toxic oils. David’s creations have appeared in several international publications. In 2008, the French magazine L’Express elected David Trubridge among the 15 best designers in the world. In 2012, the Georges Pompidou Center in Paris bought Icarus for its permanent collection. In 2004, David Trubridge was selected to participate in the Antartica Arts Fellowship.
